Costa makes spectacular start

Chelsea striker Diego Costa has made a stunning start to his life in England after scoring seven goals in the opening five matches of the season. His strikes have helped Chelsea remain unbeaten and the blues on top of the table. The position of the striker has been a problematic one for Chelsea since the exit of Didier Drogba in 2012. They have gone through several names like Fernando Torres, Demba Ba, and Samuel Eto’o without success. Costa, though, seems to be much better. Apart from being the first physical replacement for Drogba, Costa also has the eye for goal.

Even at this early stage in the season, he has scored more league goals than Torres did throughout last season. Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown, who has played with some of the best strikers in the world, says that Costa is very similar to former Arsenal great Dennis Bergkamp. The Danish forward is widely hailed as the best player in the history of Arsenal. He scored some memorable goals during his time at the club. Costa is yet to score the kind of wonder strikes, but Keown feels that the 25-year-old will prove to be a huge success at Chelsea since he also has the qualities of Drogba.

“He’s a mixture of Dennis Bergkamp’s touch and Didier Drogba’s strength and presence. He can have a tear-up or score the perfect goal and that is unusual. He has anticipation, hunger and doesn’t mind scoring scruffy goals. Every defender in the Premier League should be relishing the prospect of facing Costa,” said Keown. Manchester City will be the team looking to stop Costa from scoring in the league for the first time. The current champions have two excellent central defenders in the form of Vincent Kompany and Mangala. City have not won in the last three matches.
